In 1962 Martin Calvey farmer ,butcher & businessman saw an opportunity for selling his mountain lambs from his farm as butchered  mountain lamb carcases from his butcher shop. He butchered and hand crafted  his lambs in his abattoir and created the name ‘ACHILL MOUNTAIN LAMB’ / ’ACHILL LAMB’ for his product which he began selling to growing tourist numbers visiting Achill Island at that time and in supplying busy catering establishments on Achill Island and further a field.  From hilltop to tabletop, he did it all. It’s what Calvey’s do today over 55 years later.
