Achill Mountain Mutton Reaches Blas Finals

Achill Mountain Mutton Reaches Blas Finals

We are just over the moon to reach the finals of the coveted Blas na hEireann Irish Food Awards 2020 for our Achill Mountain Mutton. It is a forgotten flavour which we really feel deserved to be brought back onto tables in homes and restaurants around the country.
Mutton is the meat of a sheep which is two years old and upwards. It is a versatile meat which is darker in colour and has a more gamey flavour than lamb.
We grew up eating it on the island and we decided to add it, and hogget (sheep between 1 and 2 years old) to our range this year.
It really loves to be slow-cooked in dishes like curries and tagines as well as traditional stews and the Sunday roasted Achill Mountain Mutton leg with all the trimmings.
The fact that it has reached the finals of the largest blind-tasted food awards on the island of Ireland is a testimony to its superb flavour. They celebrate the very best Irish food and drink products and the people who grow, rear and make them.
Fingers crossed for the final results which will be announced online on the 3rd of October 2020!
